January 2021: Union Coffee & Union Micro Lot

Secret Sip Coffee Club is thrilled and proud to rocket into 2021 with an astonishing and truly rare micro lot sourced through a pioneer in the Canadian coffee industry and cornerstone in the Quebec coffee scene. With great excitement and yearning for more our team is pumped to have partnered with the Montreal based Union Coffee and its dynamic subsidiary Union Micro Lot.  

For close to 100 years, Union Coffee has indelibly made its mark on the discerning palettes of Montreal coffee fanatics. Dating back to the beginning when they were along the illustrious Saint Catherine Street, Union Coffee has been at the forefront of importing a diverse variety of beans to roast, blend and sell to Montreal patrons.

Though not the original founders, Union Coffee has been owned and operated by the Kouri family since the early 1960’s when grandfather Nassif Kouri, then an employee of Union Coffee for close to 40 years, bought the business. Since then, the focus has been on the coffee bean, and roasting that unique and customized blend for customers.

January’s secret roast was exclusively sourced and prepared for Secret Sip Coffee Club’s adored membership. The rare, naturally processed micro lot is an Ethiopian Yirgacheffe Grade. 1 from the Oromia region (Guji Bule Hora) with a light roast profile. The cupping notes reveal a vibrant yet ripe and juicy blueberry, pomegranate, and viscous milk chocolate, intersecting with a creamy yet silky body and pronounced, clean finish. The growing altitude was 1,900 MASL and it was harvested between October and December.
